Link to MEDIAFIRE - to download film openings

Here's the link to download the openings of films if you need:

HERE -->>> link to MEDIAFIRE folder

IF YOU TRIED THIS and there were no files in it, then you should now find (when you check again) that they are there now!

Also Mrs Thrasher has TWO youtube channels which are currently:

Mediamonkeymovies and
Testmyvideos2

As she gets deleted from youtube a lot, try testmyvideos3, mediamonkeymovies1 etc if these channels are 'no longer available' at any point throughout the course.

We also have a COOMBETUBE account which you can use to upload your work. See the main blog page for details of log-in.

Research and Analysis of Opening Sequences

Blog your responses to a minimum of THREE opening sequences - you can choose which.

You need to comment on the conventions (rules) of opening sequences exactly as we started in class.  Use the sheets you were given in class to guide you. You can submit your work as NOTES rather than in a full essay style if you want but remember it will be read by an examiner so make sure it does make sense.

You should aim for more than a minimum of three as you need to show how you have widely researched opening sequences. You should cover at least ONE in full detail and if you want an A or a B, more than one.

You should also cover CREDITS/TITLES in sequences, covering the design of the titles and what/who is actually credited (such as director, gaffer, key grip, foley artist)  and which are usually in the opening sequence and which at the end. Focus on those usually shown at the beginning. You should also cover the different orders there can be where titles are concerned – titles over black, titles over images, no titles to start etc..

You must EMBED the videos onto your blog and write underneath. Use LABELS as these will be needed later for marking purposes. The embedding and labelling instructions are on the sheet given out in class (or collectable from the media office)

Shooting Schedule

Tom Jones Shooting Schedule

Tom Jones Shooting Schedule Overview

Tom Jones Storyboard

Spooks Sequence 3

With this sequence, you need to work out the different angles and shots that have been used in the sequence. You then need to work out a 'Shooting Schedule' for the sequence. This means, literally, a list of the shots needed, in a logical order for shooting. Have a look at the examples above from a shoot for a music video for 'It's not unusual' by Tom Jones. You can clearly see the storyboard and then the sequence the shots would be shot in.

You may need to complete this for homework. This is important as you will need to produce your own shooting schedule for your film opening so bear that in mind when you're completing the activity.

You should also be reflecting on the following questions:
1. What did you learn from doing the shooting schedule in terms of
      a. The order you might film
      b. The reasons why you would plan in advance
2. If you are going to shoot your video in a different way now you realise how you need to actually work, what can you do to improve your final film?
?? if you're filming the same sequence from several different angles - what could you do with the footage if you film the whole sequence from that angle/distance?
?? the difference will come in the editing room when you have plenty of footage - what will more footage mean for you?

Please answer these things on YOUR BLOG :)

Spooks Sequence 2

This is the second sequence we studied. Look at how the action cuts between the two sequences - the action in the MI5 Offices and the 'Thieves'. Don't forget to ANSWER THE QUESTIONS on the sheets after you've unravelled which shots belong to which action sequence.

Spooks Sequences Seq 1

Here's the sequence we analysed for conversations. Check out your notes from class for the information. Think about Master Shots, Two Shots, Cut-aways, Over the shoulder shots (OTS) and SHOT-REVERSE SHOT sequences.
